Until then we have pictures.
We recently took a trip up to San Francisco to see friends and Tahoe to go skiing.
We first went to visit a friend of ours and stopped off at the Stanford Mall to grab some cupcakes. I used to spend time here when I was at school.
We also burned some time at the Rodin sculpture garden that was just outside where my lab was. I used to have lunch out there. This the Gates of Hell. One of the best pieces in the gallery.
That night we headed over to our hotel in Emeryville. We didn't realize that the next section of the Bay Bridge was up. It was quite a surprise to see it. It looks great.
But there's something about the old Bay Bridge that seems a little more majestic. This is the old side that wasn't replaced. We were driving back into San Francisco.
First thing we did was head to Ton Kiang because they have the best dim sum. The Chinese food in LA isn't that great.
Then we headed to the Academy of Science. We've been before but it's a nice place. This is the biosphere that contains a tropical rainforest. Lots of butterflies and lizards and frogs inside.
At the bottom it turns into an aquarium.
Oddly enough we ran into friends from LA. The little boy with long blonde hair goes to Campbell Hall.
And they have an albino alligator!
Next we drove up to Lake Tahoe to go skiing at Squaw Valley. Mommy and I haven't been since a wedding we went to about 10 years ago.
At one point we had to put on snow tires that roads were so slick.
Squaw Valley!
We had great weather there an the snow was quite good for being so late in the season.
Squaw Valley is where the Olympians train and as a result a lot of the hills are quite steep. Lots of double blues and blacks.
Here's one of the crazier double blacks. We did not go down this thing.
The second day we went up a gondola that afforded us great views.
If you look closely at the rock in the picture below you'll see a golden eagle sitting atop it.
Caden.
And then disaster struck. Mommy hit a bump and fell awkwardly. I had skiied ahead and had to climb back up the hill with my skis on my back. We eventually called for ski patrol and they loaded mommy on a sled and brought her to the bottom of the mountain.
Turns out it wasn't as bad as it could have been. She had strained or slightly torn a ligament on her knee. It wasn't torn. But she was on crutches and a knee brace for the rest of the trip.
We eventually came back to San Fran after skiing and stayed in a cute condo down by the SF docks. Caden was upset that the couple who owned the apartment were leaving with their dog.
We went down to the Farmers Market at the pier.
And we rode a tons of cable cars the whole stay. It was really easy to get around.
And we met up with Mommy's friend Ruth and her daughter Skyler who visited from Chico.
The best part of the trip was the visit to the new Exploratorium. It's the best museum ever. All about science and all hands on. You guys loved it.
Lastly we too a boat tour of the bay. We saw sea lions sunning on the pier...
The Golden Gate Bridge...
And Alcatraz.
