Opening the NYSE

Mommy's company The Knot changed their name and changed their 'listings' - the place which holds the trading record of the company - from the NASDAQ to the NYSE. As a perk they got to open the trading floor which is a long and storied tradition. I was lucky enough to help open the floor 4 or 5 years ago but it's a fun tradition.

We met mommy's colleagues Carly and David in Dumbo and took a car to the NYSE which is located in downtown Manhattan. Here's what the outside looks like. XO Group is the new name. XO - kisses and hugs. Get it?

Here's mommy's coworkers - Carly and David.

And here's us.

That balcony is where the floor gets opened. With a few seconds to the trading start everyone claps and then someone up on the balcony (David in this case) presses a button to start trading. It's pretty fun.  You can't see mommy because she is to far back and I was to far down.

Then there were some festivities outside with a contest. One part was to find a ring in a cake. This lucky girl was able to enjoy the remains all to herself.

Finally here is some video. It's all low quality done on my iPhone 4 and the video is actually a recording of the official video that NYSE made and was playing on TVs in the building. But you can actually see mommy in this one.

And here's some official video that hopefully will stay up.
