Camping Trip

This weekend we joined your friend Carter and her family up in Connecticut at Macedonia Brook State Park for a camping trip. It's your first camping trip and mine too. Mommy has been before. Carter and her family arrived a day before us so they were able to set up camp and get some firewood and get a lay of the land. So it was easy for us. We just brought up some food and pitched our tent and we were set.

During the day you played in the stream that was next to our campsite. It wasn't flowing strongly so we were able to walk around easily (apart from the ground not being flat). We saw some crayfish and tiny fish in the stream. We also went for two hikes. On both we saw some snakes. On the first one we saw a garter snake that had caught a frog. It was having trouble getting it into its mouth. We let it be after watching it for a while. Then the next day near a lake we saw some large black snakes. Not sure what they were. They were sunning themselves in an overflow spot on the lake. They looked a little creepy so I was happy that they were down in the overflow ditch.

For food we had to cook on the wood fire. It was my first time doing this and it was hard to get the temperature correct. But we had a nice dinner of lamb chops and steak and the baked potato and sweet potato came out very well. In the morning we made some bacon, eggs, and sausage. Yummy.

The one night we slept there, no one slept very well. It was cold and the floor was hard. Both of you crawled into our sleeping bags which made things a lot warmer. Next time we'll bring an air mattress to put under us and dress a little more warmly.

We were glad to get home though and take shower/bath.
