Governor's Island

Today we took a trip to Governor's Island which is just south of Manhattan. We drove over to Manhattan and then jumped on a free ferry ride at this terminal.

Riding the ferry is now old hat for both of you.

Here we are pulling into the dock at Governor's Island. It's a very short trip.

The first thing we did was rent a car/bicycle. It had room for mommy and daddy to peddle and room for both of you to sit up front. Considering daddy was sore from his leg workout yesterday I think you guys had the better seat.

We rode up a road which encircles the small island. It was a nice view of the surrounding area.

We took a few breaks. Here's the contraption we were riding.

We also stopped off at a battery or 'castle'. The island was a primary military defense point for New York.

Inside it was a little run down.

You can see what a nice view it has of downtown NY.

Here we are at a fort inside the island. You are not staring at the fort but rather a butterfly.

We went inside the fort where both of you helped the gardeners water their plants and take a small snack break.

Here's you are again. You are not looking at the flowers but the butterflies again. You were fascinated by them today.

After that we checked out the new 'beach' on the island. It was fake but they did a nice job. And you could buy really good hot dogs and other sausages and grab a seat under the shade behind this beach.

After that we headed home. Here we are pulling back into the ferry building with our neighborhood in the background.
