Korean Playgroup

Last Saturday we were invited to a Korean playgroup in Dumbo since our friends Randi and Jenny Song were hosting in their office. I had no idea there were so many Korean-American kids who lived near us.

Halmoni will be so happy to hear that you are trying to learn Korean. Julie sun-sang-nim (teacher) played lots of games like counting - here you volunteered to count the number of girls (Yo-ja) are sitting in the circle.

Julie also used games to teach the class basic phrases like an-young (Hi), Sa-rang-hae (I love you), and Juice Ju-say-yo (I would like some juice please). After snack time, there were more Korean songs and dancing. Here you are singing a song to learn left foot (wen-pal) and right foot (or-roon-pal).

The last song was to learn parts of the face: eyes (noon), ears (gwee), nose (koh), and lips (ip). You also learn how to say "here it is" (Yo-gi!).

After songs, all of the kids did an art project to draw a map of your heart and also to find out your Korean name. What a fun class - we'll try to join this Korean playgroup more often.
