This past week we took our big vacation in Turks & Caicos. One of the Caribbean islands. We stayed in a nice place called The Somerset. It wasn't a hotel but a condo resort where you could rent condos for the week. That meant we had a washer & dryer and a real kitchen. It was a very nice condo. Here's a view out our balcony at night.
They had 3 pools in the courtyard. The long one you see above. A smaller shallow one just beyond. And this one at the end just before the beach. We spent most of our time here.
The long one was good for doing laps.
We got lucky with the weather. It was the end of the off-season and sometimes you can get bad weather. In fact a hurricane hit the island a few weeks before. But we were lucky. It rained a few times for a few minutes but it was sunny and warm for the rest of the time we were there.
We didn't do a whole lot while we were there. In our previous trip to Grand Cayman there were a few fun things to do with you but not so much on Turks & Caicos. So instead we swam in the pool, the ocean, and took some walks.
And we didn't eat out too much either. First it was pricey. Second we had a great kitchen with Viking appliances so we bought groceries and cooked in most nights.
The rest of the resort was nice. There was a restaurant that we ate breakfast at on some days and they allowed DVDs to be rented out.
The main event was swimming though. You are now a good swimmer with your floaties. You can go underwater and jump in and swim from one side of the pool to another.
Caden hated the floaties so he had to stay in the shallow end with me or mommy.
Your favorite thing was to put your head underwater. You've always been a bit scared of doing this but now it's easy and fun for you.
And the other nice thing is you don't kick and scream when we leave the pool at the end of the day. In Cayman you would go ballistic.
We would always go down once in the morning around 9:30AM and head back up at 11:30AM or so. We would have lunch and then head down again after Caden's nap around 3:00PM. That way we avoided being in the really strong sun. We all avoided burns.
Poor Caden kept getting sunscreen in his eyes which really bugged him. You were the same way at his age.
Backstroke. You've added this to your repertoire.
The beach was really nice too. It was a shallow beach but there was no one at the resort really so we normally had the whole thing to ourselves. Look how blue that water is!
You both seemed to like the pool better than the ocean. Caden liked it because the waves were a bit dangerous at his diminutive size. You said you don't like the taste of the ocean which means the pool must have tasted nice!
A view back at the resort. You played with the family in the picture below. They were from Vancouver.
There were some small sailboats for rent but we thought that a bit dangerous at your young ages.
More pool shots.
Family shot.
We found a starfish one day we were in the ocean (not in this picture.)
A sunset on the beach.
What are you two up to?
Caden would all make us laugh by making a 'mean face'. I think he is copying me when I get angry at him. But we all just laugh when he makes the face.
You had a funny face of your own.
Two cute shots of you two.
Another family shot.
Giant monsters invaded the island one night and crushed our sandcastle.
Run away!
You two play pretty well together. Not too many fights.
And you both like taking baths together. Especially when the whirlpool makes lots of bubbles.
We walked up the beach one day. Not much to see. Just more white sand and blue water.
One day we dug a hole in the sand and built an aquifer so the ocean waves would flood the hole.
Caden admiring my civil engineering work.
We did set off one night for dinner at the Caicos Cafe.
I even ordered an umbrella drink which you loved.
And Caden had some beer. He liked it too. Better keep those bottles away from him for a while.
Here's a video of some of the highlights. Make sure to watch the end when you both show us your dancing moves.
