Bronx Zoo

Today we went to the Bronx Zoo. Our passes are almost over. The first thing we did was head for the monorail which tours around some parts of the zoo you can't see by foot.

It was a nice monorail. It faced out over the zoo areas where the animals were and it was open air so we weren't fighting to see out windows. And it wasn't too busy because we were on the first ride.

Elephants. Those are one of the animals you can't see walking around. Unfortunately they were quite a ways off.

Red Panda. So cute. He was right next to us in the trees sleeping with his buddy.

After that we walked through a nice area that was devoted to jungle animals. Monkeys!

Jaguar! He's in the back there if you look closely.

More monkeys. These two were grooming each other.

Here's Caden staring at the fishies. This was his first zoo trip.

Are you on a camel?!

Peacocks rule the zoo. They are everywhere.

And this really ugly bird is a stork.

The male lion finally showed his face. Normally when we go he's hidden in the grass. But he was up munching away at plants this time.

Lots of turtles perched on dead trees all over the zoo.

Carousel. This one was different though. Instead of horses they had bugs. You very adamantly suggested we go on the caterpillar. I'm not sure what this silly pose we are doing is all about.

You are always all smiles when you are on a carousel.

Next up the butterfly area. It was really nice. There were butterflies everywhere.

While we weren't looking Caden somehow managed to kill one. That boy has some hunting skills.

Here's one close up.

Outside they had some funny photo-op placards. Caterpillar...

...and bumble bee.

Of course there were lots of pretty flowers everywhere and a real bumble bee.

Then we headed over to a really nice children's zoo. This area had big birds nests. I think these are herons.

And a prairie dog exhibit. You could climb into little tunnels and wind up right next to the dogs. Too small for me to fit in.

Turtles.

More turtles.

"Let me out. er... I mean in."

Billy goat. He had a long beard.

More goats.

More peacocks.

One very ugly rooster.

And some ducks.

Did I mention that had a lot of peacocks.

What a fun day.
