Reading

Every night when it is bed time I read you two books. Recently we've added a third book. It's a very prescriptive book on teaching children to read. We've gone through about 25 lessons so far.

We go through the sounds of the letters (which you've known since you were 1 1/2), we join the sounds into simple words, we make rhymes like 'op' and 'top', and we recently started to read short stories (around 10-20 words). This last week you've finally been able to say some words without spelling out the sounds. so instead of "c - a - t, cat" you can look at the word and say "cat".

You even notice words when we are out walking around and try to spell them out. That's pretty impressive. I think you'll be reading a full story in no time.
