This is the view out the back. As you can see we were right next to the Deer Valley Ski Resort. We just had to walk a little ways to drop you off at daycare and then hit the slopes. We even had a private storage area so we didn't have to lug skis and boots back home with us at the end of the day.
You were required to have googles when you skiied so we picked some up. When we saw the pink ones we knew there wouldn't be a fight with you wearing them as there is with everything else that isn't pink.
Mommy was very nice and let me hit the slopes the first day while you guys and Nicole went to pick up groceries. Instead of Deer Valley we hit the Park City Resort because Deer Valley doesn't allow boarders on their slopes (woohoo!) and Toshi only boards. It was a little gray outside but skiing for half a day is a nice way to warm up the muscles.
The next morning we hit Deer Valley. Caden still doesn't have a lot of hair so he always needs to wear a hat and everyone loves this funny hat.
First we had to drop you and Caden off at day care. It was a nice day care and I think you both enjoyed your time there.
39 inches!
Freedom at last. We rarely get a whole day of leisure away from the two of you so we were very excited.
Here's a shot while we went up the chairlift. The whole ski park was really that empty. We never waited at a chairlift and had most of the entire hill while we skied down.
Another shot. Is anyone else skiing today?
After skiing we would head to the main street about 1 mile from the condo where all the Sundance film festival is held and the bars and restaurants are located. Here we are at Robert Redford's restaurant Zoom. It was pretty good as were all the restaurants.
For some reason mommy brought the DVD player for you which will keep you pre-occupied for hours. Caden kept us busy though.
The next day we hit Deer Valley again. Check out the view. Both Mommy and Daddy got to try out their new Patagonia shells which were excellent! Doesn't Mommy look happy!
And another shot. You could see for miles and miles.
At the end of the day we would relax outside the chalet before picking up the two of you.
Now what did you do in daycare? Well for most of the time you would play inside for a while. But for 1 hour in the morning you would get to go out and have private ski lessons. We couldn't help ourselves and kept checking out the bunny hill to see if you were out having your lessons. One we saw you we headed over with our cameras. It was like paparazzi.
We weren't sure if you'd like it or not but it seems like you enjoyed it and were able to stand up on your skis, go down the hill in a 'wedge' or 'pizza' stance, stop using a snow-plow move, and do some basic turns.
Your teachers would ski backwards in front of you to make sure you didn't go flying down the hill. You had some trouble because your legs aren't quite strong enough to control the skis well but you did very well. I think next year you'll really be able to improve.
Here's a nice shot of your good wedge form.
On the first few days you went up something called the 'magic carpet' which was a conveyor belt to take you up a very short bunny hill. On the last day you had advanced enough that they took you up a real chairlift. You had to be lifted onto it and off it because you were so short. You can see the much large bunny hill you skied down. It's quite a ways. Mommy tried taking you out on the last day since you had no lessons but you would have none of that.
Of course inside the daycare you were up to your usual craziness.
And Caden was up to his usual eating everything.
Towards the end of our stay we drove down to Sundance which is Robert Redford's resort. It has a small ski area, a lodge, and a nice lunch buffet which we went to. It's called Sundance because Robert Redford starred in a movie called Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Robert Redford played the Sundance Kid
They had an old cowboy general store and you spotted pink lollipops so mommy bribed you with them to be good at lunch. You can see you and mommy picking one out.
Here's a picture of Robert Redford and Paul Newman from the movie and what I presume is a saddle from his horse in the movie.
One more picture outside the resort. Hey where is Caden? He was actually at daycare for the full day and you had the day off.
Leaving Park City wasn't so easy. There was heavy snowfall the next morning and we missed our flight. We ended up waiting 6 hours at the airport for the next flight and then had a 5 hour flight back to NY. That was a long long day. But we all had a good time.
Here are some videos.
