Sick in Seattle

On Tuesday evening, we flew to Seattle since I had a few meetings in Redmond. You haven't been to Seattle since July! I bought you a seat and brought your DVD player so you were all set on the plane. . . until the battery went dead. After throwing a fit because you couldn't watch anymore Elmo, you fell asleep on the descent into Seattle. It was late for your bedtime anyway.

We checked into the W Hotel in Seattle - unfortunately the only rooms left were on the smoking floor so they brought up another HEPA filter. It still smelled like smoke - bummer.

On Wednesday, I dropped you off at the backup daycare center near Microsoft. Since you haven't been there since earlier this summer and since you have switched rooms since you are no longer an infant, you cried hysterically. We walked around the facility to find Zlatka (your old teacher in the infant room) but you still wouldn't stop crying. I had to leave for work and I heard you screaming at the door and tugging at the handle. Poor Sophia.

Later that afternoon, I got a call from the backup daycare center since you had a fever. Maybe that is why you were crying so much in the morning because you weren't feeling well. Poor Sophia - you must have caught something on the flight (again!). After naptime, your teacher said that you did not want to get up so the teacher took your temperature. . . and you had a fever of nearly 102 degrees.

I picked you up around 4pm and we went to the store to buy you some cold medicine - you started to cough too, so I figured you had a sore throat. We dropped by my friend's house (Stephanie Cross) so that we could meet her kids - it's too bad you weren't feeling better. Stephanie has two kids who were excited to play with you - Stella is almost 3 and Parker is almost 2 years old. We did not stay long because you were sick, but you had fun exploring their toys and climbing their stairs. Stella was also performing the Thanksgiving Story with props she made at school.

You had no appetite, so Mommy ate quickly and then we left. You were such a good sport and at least I had a chance to catch up with Stephanie. Since I no longer work on M&A deals, I don't see or talk to Stephanie as often. Hopefully next time you are feeling better so that we can have a real playdate.

On the way to the hotel, we dropped by to see Tanya for 10 minutes - Som had already left for India so it was a quick hello and then bedtime for you.

Today another babysitter Mary came to the hotel to watch you - luckily I was able to find someone at the last minute since you weren't allowed to go back to Bright Horizons. Mary arrived around 9AM and you were playful with her. . . until you noticed I was packing up my computer. You started to cry but Mary put on the Wild Wild West Elmo DVD and you fell asleep on the bed. You had fun the rest of the day playing at the Seattle Library next door - Mary said you were so smart reading all of the books and naming all of the animals. How fun!

Daddy arrives tonight and we are driving up to Whistler tomorrow morning.
