Santa Monica Playdate

Yesterday neither you nor me wanted to get out of bed. We knew it was going to be a very long day traveling to LA!
Last night we flew to LA since both Mommy and Daddy had work to do in Santa Monica. You and I took the 2pm ET United flight to LAX and our flight arrived on time around 5pm PT; unfortunately, Daddy took the 5pm ET United flight which was delayed for nearly 5 hours. I was thankful we did not take that evening flight because it would have been a nightmare travelling with you and arriving at 2AM in the morning. Plus we were lucky because there was an extra seat on our flight so you had your own seat and happily passed the time watching Elmo DVDs.

When we landed at LAX, we picked up a rental car and drove in rush hour traffic to Santa Monica. Your Grandparents met us at the hotel - they were planning to spend the night since they were going to watch you while Mommy and Daddy worked. Everyone was exhausted so we went to bed at the same time you did.

The next morning, you woke up at 4:45AM PT (which is 7:45AM in New York) - I tried to snuggle with you in bed but you were wide awake. Instead I got out of bed, showered and played with you for a hour before sneaking out to the grocery store and Starbucks. You had fun trying on my shoes!
I had a 7AM conf call so I surprised your Daddy with an iced americano and chocolate donut from Starbucks before he headed off to his conference in the hotel. When I returned to the room around 7:45AM, you had fallen back asleep. Grandma said you cried for a while but then realized Mommy was away so you wanted to take a nap. Poor thing.

After I got ready for work, you started to cry uncontrollably again because you knew I was leaving for the day. Poor baby. Daddy dropped by during lunch and you cried again when he left. What a rough day. I left work early and arrived back at the hotel around 4PM - I found Grandma and you playing on the treadmill near the pool area. You were still in your pajamas! Grandma said you refused to let her change your clothes - oh well.

We waited in the hotel room for Daddy to finish his conference; your Grandma went shopping for a few hours and we decided to meet in Koreatown to take your Great-Grandfather out to dinner. I thought Daddy was planning to stay in so I made plans to see your Great-Grandpa since he now lives alone. Your Daddy was exhausted from lack of sleep, so we relaxed in the room and you watched your favorite Elmo DVD, 'Wild Wild West,' until it was time to leave.
It was a dreadful drive from Santa Monica to Koreatown - what normally takes less than 15 minutes on the freeway took nearly two hours in cross-town traffic! I regretted making dinner plans, but we had to go since your Grandpa was with us and had to catch a ride home with Grandma. You were exhausted and hungry too - about one hour into the drive (and not even half-way there), we had to stop at a grocery store to buy you some milk. Then you fell sound asleep in the car - you missed the entire dinner! At least we enjoyed yummy Korean-Chinese food!
