On Our Way to Chico

This afternoon we nearly missed our flight to Chico to visit my best friend from college, Ruth, and her family. I had a conference call from 1-2PM and then we raced to the airport to catch the 3:40PM flight to San Francisco. The traffic was terrible and the highways looked like parking lots; luckily, our driver knew the side roads so we were able to avoid the highways. We arrived at the United terminal at 3:02 - WHAT A MIRACLE!

After checking our bag with the skycap and receiving our boarding passes, we rushed to security - we were directed to the shortest line but were delayed due to the TSA staff going back to work after their break (they cut the line!). After passing through security, we tried to take the elevator to the gates but got stuck - the doors wouldn't open and nothing happened for a few minutes. I was worried we would be stuck in the elevator and miss our flight - luckily, someone else pushed the button and we got out of the elevator and took the stairs. Phew!

When we arrived at the gate, it looked like mayhem - the flight was oversold and we still did not have seats on the flight. When the agent gave me the boarding passes, we were separated - both had middle seats in the same row. I had to negotiate with the other passengers so that we could sit together. What a disaster.

Our flight took off 45 minutes late- we had a 2 hour layover in San Francisco so I was not worried about the connection. I thought you would fall asleep after take-off since you missed your afternoon nap; however, you were too excited to watch Elmo and Dora on the portable DVD player. We watched DVDs, read some books, used crayons on the magazines and sang songs. The time flew by - check out how focused you are on Elmo.
You did not like wearing the headphones so we just played the DVDs with the sound on low volume.
After three hours, I took you out of the carseat to change your diaper. You were happy to stretch your legs. Ten minutes later, I noticed your funny poopy face and had to change your diaper again. Yucky.

As usual, the last hour of the flight was the worst - you were bored with the books and the phone, so I gave you some goldfish and then put in Elmo one more time. As we were descending, the low battery sign came on so our timing was perfect.

When we landed, we called Daddy to say hello and goodnight. Your eyes always light up whenever you hear Daddy's voice on the phone. We grabbed a quick bite to eat and then as I was strolling to the gate, you passed out. You must be exhausted.

Our flight to Chico has been delayed for an hour so I am online while you sleep. Special treat for Daddy too.

It was very lonely here when I got home. I always look forward to the weekends so we can all hang out.

Instead I stopped off at Home Depot to pick up some hardware to install some shelves and hooks and also set up the big bookshelf we bought from Ikea. It then took me forever to sort out all the books and put them away. Finally done. What a nice surprised to see a blog posting.

Hope you get into Chico soon and aren't too tired. Sleep tight.
