Central Park & The Apple Store

Here we are outside the Time Warner building on the southwest corner of Central Park. We had just had lunch at Whym on 9th Avenue. Daddy had snuck out earlier to do some shopping at Charles Tyrwhitt and met up with you at the restaurant.

It's a nice corner of the park. There is a nice monument and some guys were jamming for money.

We headed for the children's park and this smart lady was waiting at the entrance trying to sell parents some balloons. It certainly caught your attention.

It's a big area. There are some areas with astroturf so it's soft on your feet. And then further back are some cool water channels (more later). Beyond that is a huge rock to climb on.

The first thing you saw were some water fountains. Daddy had to run over to make sure you didn't get your shoes and socks wet.

I thought you were going to go in but you decided not to at the last minute.

Next we headed over to the sandpit right next to the fountains.

While you tried to get your "sand feet" (you found it tricky to walk on) daddy pondered deep philosophical questions.

Here's mommy smiling for the camera

As usual you wandered over to play with some girls.

Then mommy took you over to the other slide and sent you down with her.

After that we headed to the swings. Your favorite. "Wheeeee"

You still need a little help to get going.

Then we went over to this cool modern area where they had built a sort of water channel to walk through. This is where it ends. You walked up to where it begins (which is a long way from here.)

And you walked...

And walked...

And walked...

And walked...

And walked...

And walked. Until you finally reached the big rock. And then you turned back and did it again.

On the way back you stopped in to see daddy.

And here we are where you started.

Here's a shot of all the parents scrambling to try and catch up with their kids.

I thought you'd be tired after that but you were more energized than ever. Mommy was tired though :).

And here is a video of you playing in the area. Nice climbing.

After that we walked east so we could go to the new Apple store. On the way we found this nice amusement park. You are a bit young for this at your age (1.5 years old) but I bet you'll love this when you get older.

We saw some turtles on the way home too. You like to say, "tur tahs", because you have trouble saying "L"s.

And then we found the Apple store. You can see the big glass cube which is the entrance. The store is underground.

Here's another shot. You can see the big white apple that hangs from the ceiling.

Here's a cool picture from inside the cube in the elevator. It reminds me of a Richard Estes drawing. He makes photorealistic paintings in which people in the picture are always reflected in glass windows.

And this is looking up at the apple from the elevator.

And this is a shot down in the store looking up. The elevator, which is round, is on the right.

Here's a better view. The store itself is nothing great. It was packed though. After this we headed home. We were all beat. Mommy actually fell asleep on the subway. You too.
