A Cold But Fun Weekend

We did quite a lot of things this weekend. But we forgot to bring the camera so we don't have any real shots of what we did. I had to pilfer them from the web. It's been very cold lately so we all had to bundle up.

On Saturday we had a nice brunch at Danal. Mommy and Daddy had been there before years ago but not together. And certainly not with you. If you want eggs done correctly you need to go to a French restaurant. That's what Danal is. It was very reasonably priced and so so yummy. I had a scrambled egg dish and mommy had a salmon and lentil dish. We also ordered 1 egg scrambled for you, but the chef misunderstood the waitress and brought you the same dish as I ordered.

After brunch, we walked up 5th Avenue for some shopping. And we naturally veered towards Rickshaw Dumplings. The dumplings there are so so, but they have one of our favorite desserts. There serve a type of dumpling that's called a soup dumpling. It's a dumpling with soup in it. Well this one is like that but it doesn't have soup in it, it has chocolate sauce inside. And the outside isn't really a dumpling but mochi which is a Japanese dessert made out of rice. It was very good. We then wandered around 6th Avenue and bought some books in Barnes and Noble and then came home because we were so cold.

For dinner, we headed straight to Grimaldi's, our favorite pizza shop a few blocks from our apartment. We're very lucky to have the best pizza joint Mommy or Daddy has ever been to right next to us. We had our usual olive and pepperoni pizza. Mommy then realized that we never try anything different there. To which my response was our usual is so good that I'd feel terrible if we got something and it wasn't as good as our standby. The only way I'd try something new is if we came one day and had our usual and then came the next day to try something new. So as a result we had our dinner on Sunday planned out.

On Sunday we headed out to 5 Ninth. I had heard they served a sandwich there called a Bahn Mi. This is a Vietnamese sandwich. French bread. Daikon and carrots julienned. Pork and Vietnameses salami. And some Vietnamese sweet and sour dressing and some kind of mayonnaise. I'd never had one before but I had heard very good things and this restaurant in particular supposedly had the best. Wow! Daddy was impressed. It's the best sandwich I've ever had. We are going back there. Mommy ordered a noodle and pork dish that was also very good.

We walked up north a little. The area is called the meatpacking district or Mepa. Most of the butchers are gone but there are still some there. Mainly it's a very trendy area like SoHo used to be. You needed more food so we went into 202 Cafe and sat at the bar to order you some scrambled eggs. The cafe is inside the Chelsea Market. It's claim to fame is it is where the Oreo cookie was first made. Now it's a marketplace with fresh meat and produce. We fed you and then walked around the cafe a little since there was a sale. Oddly they sell clothes in there too.

After that we headed up to the Upper West side and then took a bus over to the East side. We walked down a few blocks and went into the Guggenheim Museum. This is a modern art museum but the real star of the show is the building itself which was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Some people call the building the toilet bowl because it kind of looks like one. But it is really an amazing building. I think he has a Welsh background like you. You had fun running around inside and yelling because it echoed well inside that building.

After that we did a little shopping around the area and then headed home to have our new pizza at Grimaldi's. We ordered a 'white pizza' which is a garlic, mozzarella and ricotta cheese. We also had them put some pepperoni on it too. It was very good. I think we might have to get both types of pizza now. You had a little accident in the restaurant. A massive vomit that made things a little messy. We're kind of used to those kinds of spills so we were pretty unfazed. After that we came home. Boy is it cold outside.
