While you played around the Christmas tree and crawled up the stairs, Daddy made DVDs of all of the videos we took over the last year. It was fun to watch some old videos when you were just a tiny baby. It is amazing how big you have grown!

We munched on snacks most of the afternoon like chips and homemade guacamole, cheese and crackers, and spinach dip with pita chips. At 7pm, Toshi and Nicole made a very healthy New Year's Eve dinner; we had miso soup with daikon and baby bok choy, yakitori (chicken skewers), watercress salad and tofu.

After dinner, we put you down to sleep upstairs in the bedroom and we played games waiting for midnight to arrive. First we played Scrabble in the living room which took an hour or so. Next we moved to the kitchen to eat the cake that Daddy bought from our favorite bakery in Dumbo - it was a beautiful square cake with layers of pistachio cake, custard and rasberry fillings, a thin chocolate bottom, and meringue as the top layer. It was very yummy!

We then played Jenga - it was a game meant for engineers. Daddy and Toshi were trying to make the tower as unstable whereas Nicole and I were playing it safe and taking the easiest blocks out.

A few minutes before midnight, Toshi pulled out a block and the tower crashed. . .and we made a lot of noise which woke you up. . .and then the dogs started to bark loudly. I tried to put you back to sleep but you wouldn't stop crying whenever I tried to leave the room. In fact, you puked a little in the bed from crying so hard. After an hour of waiting for you to fall back asleep, I decided to go to bed with you and you fell asleep right away. Daddy and Toshi played with other puzzles until 3am. When we woke up, it was 2006!

Nicole went to church and brought back bagels with cream cheese. While we were in the kitchen, Daddy put you on his shoulders and you started to stroke his head. What a cutie!

In the afternoon, Nicole's friend Jean and her daughter Violet stopped by since they did not want to drive out the night before in the snow. You had fun playing with Violet who is 5 months older than you. Here is Violet trying to give you the phone.

We were laughing watching Violet and you squat whenever you wanted to rest. Jean mentioned a short online film called 'How to Do the Asian Squat' - it was a spoof short film created like an instructional video. After a few tries, Nicole figured it out but Toshi still could not do it.

We tried to order take-out Indian or Thai, but the restaurants were closed until dinner. Toshi made us late brunch using the leftovers - steak, mushrooms and scrambled eggs with veggies. After eating some cake, we went for a walk down to the beach. It was cold but I think you enjoyed getting some fresh air - I bundled you up and put you in the baby bjorn. As always you looked so cute with your hat on.
