Top of the Rock

Today we went to the Top of the Rock. This is the top lookout on the Rockefeller Center. Rockefeller was the richest guy in the world back around the depression (1920-30s). In current dollars he was worth about $250 billion. That would buy a lot of toys. This is also the building where they light the big Christmas tree. They just renovated and opened a lookout area at the top of the building which is 60 or 70 stories high. It has a great view.

This is the view out of the 2nd floor of the Rockefeller. That's Radio City Music Hall which is where the Rockettes have a show. We'll take you there when you get older.

Here we are at the top looking out. That's Central Park behind you. They put up big glass walls so you can see out but you won't fall over the edge. Pretty view huh?

Here's a better shot of the same view. This is facing north from the Rockefeller Center. Mommy and daddy work just a couple of blocks from here farther north.

Here's daddy going for the candid shot. You're wondering what I'm doing.

Here's a view looking down. I'm trying to squeeze in between the two pieces of glass.

Here we are facing east. That's the East River seperating Manhattan from the outer Boroughs. I'm not sure if that is Brooklyn or Queens over there. It might be both. Brooklyn continues to the right and Queens continues to the left.

Here's a pretty church below us. To the right of it is Saks 5th Avenue which is a famous department store.

Wow. Look at that. That's looking south now. That tall building in the center is the Empire State Building (New York is known as the Empire state). You can see the East River far off to the left and the Hudson River off to the right. We live to the left of the Empire State Building by the water.
