A Few New Things

Couple of news items. First, we let your nanny, Allison, go. We liked her and I think you liked her but there were a couple things that happened that made us not trust her judgment so we decided to let her go. We have a new nanny, Girlie, starting tomorrow. We'll see what she is like.

Second, we don't really have any photos of you sleeping, so I took a couple of shots. Here's your normal sleeping position on your side. You also enjoy the 'face plant' and the 'spread eagle'.

Here's a close-up on the side. Your mommy loves your pursed lips when you sleep. She's happy when she puts you down because she gets a break and then 5 minutes later she wants to go in and pick you up again. But of course she can't when you are asleep.

They filmed a commercial below us a few days ago. I think it was for the iPod (a thing that plays music which will probably be a relic by the time you can read this). They were setting up all day and eventually made the shoot at night. You can see the big reflective pad up on top (this reflected light from below) and you can see an old bus below and some old streetlamps on the road to the right (2 lights). The camera was somewhere off to the left, but I never could quite make out where it was.

Here's a bad shot of the guy directing the commercial (or at least directing the people around; on the left) and the guy who stars in the commercial (on the right). It was so dark it was hard to take a good shot. They were nice enough to look up and wave. They took a few shots with the main guy walking along the street and the bus driving past. And then another one with the green screen behind him while he was dancing. They use this screen if they want to put a 'make-believe' scene behind someone. They shoot it with the green screen and then they remove the green and put another scene behind him. If I find the video I'll post a link up here.

Well I found the video. Here it is [posted 3/1/06]

And finally you had your first play date inside a box. I think this box had a bunch of wipes inside. I emptied them out and put them in a cupboard and then threw you inside. I don't know why but 9 out of 10 kids loving playing in boxes.

Let's see. What else have you been up to this week?
  • I think we mentioned that your teeth are coming in. You now have two of your middle bottom teeth growing in. You've not slept so well the last few nights so I think you have a few more coming in and maybe they are a bit painful.
  • If I say 'clap clap' to you, you clap. It's the first sign that you understand what I'm saying and that words that come out of our mouths mean something. I'm teaching you 'kiss kiss' now. You make a kind of sucking-kissing sound so I'm going to see if I can teach you to do that when I say 'kiss kiss'.
  • You are also kind of saying 'bye bye'. You actually say 'buh buh'. You also wave bye bye when you say it but you do it backwards. Kind of like you are waving bye bye to yourself. That's a pretty good start though. We'll work on your form next week.
  • Mommy has been craving having you sleep in our bed lately. When I get up you are still asleep. If mommy doesn't have to get up early, I go in and pick you up gently and put you into bed with mommy. We both hope you are scared of lightning when you get older so you'll come running into our room to sleep.
  • Can you believe we only just bought your first ball? Talk about negligent parents. Mommy picked up a basketball (it's as big as you) and 6 smaller balls. Your favorite present this week though was a balloon filled with helium. You've never seen anything that floats up like that.
  • You are pretty good at standing now. You can stand up for quite a while if you aren't to focused on it. If I distract you a bit you can stand up for a good 10 seconds. You have yet to try your first step however.
  • You are slowly getting tired of drinking milk and prefer to eat solid foods now. One reason is we make your food so it actually tastes good. You are a pro at eating but you get distracted easily. I have to make funny noises and 'fly' the spoon in your mouth to keep your attention.
  • You went to your first birthday party this weekend. Henry, the boy you play with upstairs, turned 1 years old. There were lots of kids. You had a good time playing with everyone until you fell asleep in mommy's lap.
