Brunch with Som/Tanya

Som and Tanya flew to NYC this weekend for a quick visit - we met them for brunch at one of our old favorite brunch spots called Jane. You were a bit cranky because you missed a nap - you did not cry when Som held you but you do not yet recognize Tanya's face. You met Tanya several times back in January when you were only a few weeks old, but you haven't seen her since then. In fact, you like to stare at any new person's face for a long while before they can hold you or else you start to cry. (The baby books call this stranger anxiety.)

After brunch, we went home to relax - you took a nap for an hour in your crib and then we went to our neighbors' apartment (Andrea, Nick and baby Henry) for a BBQ. Your nanny Allison and Henry's nanny, Jo, are friends so you play with Henry several times during the week. Henry can crawl, so you were staring at him and trying to figure out how you could move around like him. We played with you on a blanket outside on their large deck while Nick made burgers and bratwurst on the grill. Andrea brought out some of Henry's toys and you had fun knocking down a tower of stacking cups. We went home around 8:45 so we could put you to bed.

I also fell asleep at 9:15pm but your dad went out to meet Som at a party at Arjun's apartment. . . and he did not come home until 10am the next day! Your dad came home very hungover and stinky from the party - they were up until 6am and then he passed out on Arjun's couch. (I can't imagine staying up that late anymore!) When I woke up at 7am to feed you, I was a bit worried because I thought your dad might have taken the subway home late and gotten mugged. I decided not to freak out until after I fed you; luckily, Tanya text-messaged me to let me know that your daddy was sleeping at Arjun's. PHEW!

We had a mellow Sunday - we walked to Smith Street to have brunch at Gravy and then walked to ToysRUs to buy a few things. We were going to read the NYTimes at Starbucks but it started to rain so we just went home. For the rest of the day, we played with you at home and ordered our favorite pizza from Grimaldi's for dinner (pepperoni with black olives). We also fed you squash and broccoli twice today - you are a much better eater these days and seem to enjoy eating solid foods. So far, you have tried rice cereal, carrots, green beans, butternut squash, and broccoli. In a few weeks you'll start eating chicken and red meat too.
