One weekend in February we went to Central Park to see an exhibit by an artist named Christo. He is famous for covering natural landmarks like buildings, bridges, lakes, and trees with bright colored plastic. Kind of silly but fun to see nonetheless. This exhibit in Central Park had lots of "gates" made out of orange fabric. You can see mom wheeling you under some of them in the picture. The exhibit was called The Gates for obvious reasons. And they covered the whole of Central Park which is big!

The place where we lived at this time was called Dumbo which is short for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass. There are actually 2 bridges that meet at Dumbo - Manhattan and Brooklyn. We decided to take a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge one day. This is a shot of that walk. Boy it was cold outside. Manhattan is behind us and you are tucked away under a blue scarf in front of me.

One weekend in March we went to see one of mom's friends (Ji Mi Choi) who was completing her Masters dissertation in New Jersey. That's her in the picture. She's also Korean like your mom. The area was called Manasquan. We stayed in the house that Ji Mi was living in which was just a block away from the shore of the Atlantic Ocean We took a picture of you while she was holding you. We had dinner over at the neighbors and one of the men over there loved holding you and making sure you weren't crying. You were a big hit.

We also took some pictures of you while you were at Ji Mi's house. We thought this one was cute of you propped up on the couch. You loved to sit up so you could look around. When you were on your back I think you got upset after a while because there was nothing to look at. Although when you were first born you would look for hours at the ceiling. And we would look up at the ceiling wondering what on earth you were looking at.

And you can see how chubby your legs have gotten in this picture. I think you had just woken up after a feeding and you were nuzzled into my chest. Very cute! One of my favorite moments is when you wake up. You are all groggy and you do this really funny stretch. I'll have to make sure I get it on the videocamera. You scrunch up and bend backwards and then you start hitting yourself in the face. We have no idea why you did that. I would try to put my fingers in front of your face so you wouldn't hit yourself but it would never seem to work. You were pretty calm for this picture though.

One of your favorite things to do is 'sit' on my lap and get me to stick my tongue out. The first time you would smile when I stuck my tongue out and watch it move back and forth. And then later if I didn't stick my tongue out you would stick yours out in the hopes I would follow suit. Of course it always worked. You especially wanted me to stick my tongue out when I rocked you to sleep. I think it made you more relaxed. I'm worried that when you get older you are always going to want to stick your tongue out :).

We also took a silly picture of me sitting next to you so we could see how big you were next to me. You are of course very tiny still but you have grown, at this point, quite a bit since you were born. You are probably close to 11-12 lbs in this picture. You've gotten about 1" longer but mainly you've just filled out. You had the cutest chubby legs at this time. I kept wanting you to get fatter and fatter. My mother loves fat legs too. She wanted us to send her pictures of when your legs got fat.

Around this time you also started to get some cognitive abilities. Like I said before, you would stick your tongue out to make me stick mine out. And when you did tummy time or my face was very close to yours you would make much more complex goo-gooing sounds. Normally you just go "goo...goo". But around this time you started to make "la la la la" sounds and also use your vocal chords. I would start to repeat your sounds back to you and you would make more sounds. Your mom and I would laugh and laugh and laugh.

The funny thing all our friends did was say who you looked like. Mommy and I didn't think you looked like either one of us. You just looked like who you were. Most people thought you looked like me but I don't think so at all. And you don't quite look like mommy either. You just look like someone who is in between. Who would want to look like us anyway, right? The only tell tale signs you have that we are your parents is the big head you have. Your feet look more like your moms. You have eyes that look more like me (because all Korean people seem to notice that your eyelids fold in the middle like mine where you moms fold under, go look). Your hair was like both of ours. When it was wet it was curlier like mine. When it dried it was straight like mommy's. And the color was brown with highlights on the ends.

Your mom is a hard taskmaster. She would make you do tummy time every day to make sure you built up your neck muscles so you could keep your head upright and sturdy. You have a funny habit of trying to headbutt everyone who holds you because your head wobbles around so much. After a few minutes of tummy time you would always start crying since you couldn't see anything. So I started to let you do tummy time on my stomach (like on the left) or on a raised surface so you could see a litlte more. This way you could at least look at my face (or my tongue).
